Years ago, before I had ever really traveled, I asked a friend how she found the courage to backpack solo across Europe for a year.

“Weren’t you nervous?”

She looked at me like I’d asked the easiest question in the world.

“Dan… you just buy the ticket.”

That was it.

No grand speech. No life-changing philosophy. Just six simple words.

For some reason, they stuck with me.

A few years later, I decided it was my turn.

Not long after, I bought a one-way ticket to Thailand with a backpack full of climbing gear and absolutely no idea what I was doing.

One trip turned into another. Then another. Somewhere along the way, travel stopped being about checking places off a map. It became about people.

I’ve shared meals with families who didn’t speak a word of English. I’ve been invited into homes by complete strangers.

I’ve been rescued, fed, laughed with, completely lost, and reminded over and over that the world is a lot more welcoming than the headlines would have you believe.

After many decades and more passport stamps than I can count, I keep coming back to the same conclusion: we’re a lot more alike than we are different.

That love of travel is a huge part of why Kaare and I built Fieldborn the way we did, and why we finally gave travel a proper home on our website.

It’s more than a portfolio. It’s a reflection of the places that shaped us, the people we’ve met along the way, and the stories we’ll always be drawn to telling.

If wild places, good people, and stories from around the world are your thing, come have a look: https://fieldborncreative.com/destination

Dan Holz

I’m Dan Holz, and I tell stories that move people.

For over two decades, I have been behind the lens. Filming, photographing, and capturing the kind of moments that make you feel something. My work is not just about pretty landscapes and epic gear shots. It is about bringing brands and organizations to life in a way that is raw, immersive, and impossible to ignore.

At Holz Media, we thrive in the chaos of outdoor production. One minute, we are chasing golden light through the mountains. The next, we are rigging cameras in gale-force winds. Whatever it takes to get the shot.
